• Is Your Deck or Patio Ready for Summer?

Summer in British Columbia is all about outdoor enjoyment. Barbecuing, relaxing, and hosting. Before your first gathering, ensure your deck or patio is in good condition. Each year, we find homes that look fine but have hidden safety issues.

Moisture from fall and winter can cause wood rot, especially in damp areas. Check for soft spots, splintered boards, or sections that feel bouncy. Loose fasteners and railings, common in older decks, should be stable and secure.

For patios, uneven pavers can create tripping hazards, particularly near stairs. If you have a barbecue or outdoor fireplace, place it safely away from flammable materials and ensure proper ventilation. Moss and algae may look cosmetic, but they can create slippery surfaces.

If your deck is aging or elevated, consider a professional inspection to catch unnoticed structural issues. We can include deck safety in your next inspection or address it whenever you need reassurance.
